Hello Kansa APCO friends!
I am writing to you today to give an update about our Fall Conference. First I want to say how sorry we are that we had to cancel our Spring conference at nearly the last minute. Due to COVID, so many things have changed for all of us.
The Executive Board has been working very closely for months to try and make the best decision that we can for our attendees. We are working with our venue staff, insurance company, instructors, 0ur co-host KS 911 Coordinating Council, and the commercial partners. We know that many of you have reached out to us with questions and concerns about our Fall Conference and we appreciate those that replied to our survey. With all of that being said, the Executive Board has voted in favor of continuing to plan to have a Fall Conference in Manhattan, KS October 5th-7th, 2020. This was not a unanimous vote, for the sake of transparency. Our two awesome keynote speakers are still able to attend. Thank you, Adam Timm with The Healthy Dispatcher and our Spring Keynote speaker, Jim Marshall from the 911 Training Institute will also be able to attend.
Our opening registration and Flash Day will be Wednesday, August 26th, 2020. More information will be shared about this soon.
Many of our other great instructors and commercial sponsors want to keep supporting us and attend with of course healthy steps in keeping us all safe. Our venue, Hilton Garden Inn, has assured us that they are taking great measures to keep things sanitized and social distancing will be emphasized greatly. We do not want anyone attending that is not comfortable with it. We highly encourage everyone to wear a mask, social distance, and keep your hands washed. As we work out our plans, we will be very clear of all of the rules and safety measures that we plan to put in place. Some examples will be no buffet meals, registration will be done differently and safely, and social events will also be different.
Many have inquired about virtual learning. We are trying hard to work on that possibility and as soon as we know what we will be able to do, we will share that with all of you.
If you had signed up for the Spring Conference and your registration was transferred to fall, that still stands. If you are no longer able to attend, please contact me directly for refund processing or credit for next year. I will publish my contact information below.
We still plan to honor our award winners from the spring and hold elections at this conference. Up for election will be the Treasurer and the 2nd Vice President positions. I will publish the updated forms on our web page soon.
If a 2nd wave of COVID ramps back up prior to our conference, we will take quick action to shut things down and announce as soon as we are able to. As the training committee and the Executive Board works diligently over the next few weeks, we will keep you updated on all platforms. If at any time you have questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to any board member. We know this is a trying time and we will work hard to do the best we can to bring you quality training and keep everyone safe.
